On Oct 26, 2012 at the VI National Catholic Congress for Jail Ministry, held at the Panamanian Government’s National Environmental Ministry meeting center in Farallon, Penonome, the participating members honored our confrere Alan McLellan for his service to this ministry.
The National Episcopal Advisor, Bishop Pablo Varela, and the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Andres Carrascosa Coso, presented the plaque which I received and offered thanks in the name of Alan’s family, confreres and the many who honor Alan by continuing the difficult task of Jail Ministry in Panama.
Below the translation of the plaque:

THE BISHOPS CONFERENCE OF PANAMA – CATHOLIC JAIL MINISTRY
As a sign of his love and self giving to those deprived of liberty, we want to render posthumous honor to the Reverend Father
ALAN McLELLAN, C.M.
who for many years worked for the humanization of the Penitentiary System and the dignified treatment of those deprived of liberty.
The current Executive Secretary for Jail Ministry for the Panamanian Bishops Conference, Fr. Edy Arriola, Mercedarian, coordinated the event.
Sending along photos from the event, as well as one John Carney took of Alan with Betty Carney, his stepmother, the morning he left Philadelphia for the IV Congress in October 2008.
