St. John’s Prep continues to serve as an introduction to Vincentian service.
On Tuesday December 10, 2013 St. John’s Prep Junior Ladies of Charity had the honor of welcoming Ms. Gayle Johnson, President of The Ladies of Charity of the United States; Ms. Kathleen Sieracki, Vice- president of the Northeast Region, and Ms. Maryann D’Antuono, Assistant Director St. John’s University’s Vincentian Center for Church and Society. The Ladies of Charity is a society that was founded by St. Vincent de Paul in 1617 to respond to the needs of the poor with compassion, charity and assistance that is sustainable and organized. Today, there are 250,000 Ladies of Charity in over 50 countries, committed to service, leadership and accompaniment of the poor.
Many members of the Eastern Province either discovered their vocation there or served on the faculty. Among them recently deceased Jack McKenna and Walt Graham.
