We just received word that Fr. Jim Smith died this morning after many years of declining health spent in St. Catherine’s Infirmary, Germantwon, Pa.
He spent the greater part of his priesthood ministering at St. John’s in a variety of capacities – among them teaching in the Department of Theology, Associate Dean, St. John’s College and Chaplain to the Law School. He also served at St. Vincent’s Seminary, Boyton Beach, Florida,and Our Lady of Angels Seminary, Albany New York. Well know for his preaching ability he served for a number of years as Director of the Daughters of Charity Northeast.
He professed final vows in 1958 and was ordained in 1961.

Jim Smith will be waked at St. John’s University’s St. Thomas More Church on Sunday, April 6th, from 2:00-4:30 and 7:00-9:00.
Jim’s mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, April 7th at 10:30 am in St. Thomas More Church
