St. Mary’s, our Vincentian Parish in Greensboro, was chosen as the best place to provide emergency assistance in the wake of the tornado that touched down in the area.
In response to the EF2 tornado that struck the Greensboro region recently, (touching down in areas in Guilford and Rockingham Counties), Catholic Charities is working in partnership with St. Mary Catholic Church in Greensboro to provide assistance. Gov. Roy Cooper has declared a state of emergency in these two North Carolina counties. In Guilford County, which received the heaviest damage, officials estimate that over 1,000 structures were affected.
Catholic Charities employees and agency and church volunteers will be present at St. Mary Catholic Church (812 Duke Street, Greensboro) on Wednesday and Friday for the next two weeks (April 25 and 27, and May 2 and 4) at the St. Mary Parish Center to offer assistance to individuals and households who were impacted by the recent tornado. The time period when assistance will be offered is 10 AM to 3 PM. Assistance will be available in English and Spanish. There is no need to sign-up in advance. (Habrá empleadosquehablen inglés y español. No serequiereanotarse con anticipación).

This afternoon, President Trump approved a disaster declaration for Guilford and Rockingham Counties and requested federal assistance in response to the tornadoes. Great news! This may impact our work in the coming weeks.
