St. Thomas More Church, the spiritual center of St. John’s University’s Queens campus, was featured on NET-TV’s Emmy Award-winning series, City of Churches.
Julia Upton, RSM, Ph.D., distinguished professor of theology and former provost, sat down with host Anthony Mangano to explore the history and the importance of St. Thomas More Church, which opened its doors in 2004. Dr. Upton walks Mr. Mangano through the planning, construction and dedication of the Church, and highlights the beauty of several important features including the stained glass windows and the history of the Vincentians as told through the mosaics in the narthex.

City of Churches explores and documents the local history, art and architecture that clearly illustrate why New York City is known as the “City of Churches.” The show uncovers places, people and memories inspired by these architectural wonders and their surrounding neighborhoods. NET-TV can be seen on Cablevision (NYC), channel 30; Time Warner Cable, channel 97; Verizon Fios, channel 48; and on line at netny.tv.
The film, with Anthony Mangano and Dr. Upton,RSM,presents a glimpse of heavenly beauty reflected at Saint Thomas Moore Church. Moreover, this manifests a revelation of God’s omnipotence whereby people receive empowerment from God to carry on the “Vincentian charisma”. What a meditation for the 400th anniversary! What a testimony by the children of God gathered at Saint John’s! If my memory still functions as an octogenarian, I remember fondly your stories of Saint John’s in Brooklyn and your building the Queens campus about a half century ago!
Our Lord and Saint Vincent must be extremely proud of your labor of love!
Faithfully,
Ed Ambrose
