Bread and Life – Social teaching in action

by John Freund, CM | Jun 19, 2014 | Eastern Province

See Judge Act SJU Bread and Life is used as an example of Catholic Social Teaching in action. The 7 minute YouTube video shows how the program fleshes out Catholic social teaching.

(Did you catch Fr. Astor Rodriquez celebrating Eucharist?) The video was produced by CAPP,  a lay-led, pontifical organization characterized by a special relationship with our founder, Saint John Paul the Great, and his successors to the Chair of Peter, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.  The Holy Father sees CAPP as a vehicle for lay education and evangelization of Catholic social doctrine.

Nationally, CAPP-USA  is associated with The Catholic University of America with which we developed the Certificate Program in Catholic Social Teaching.  We currently have chapters in Fairfield County, Diocese of Bridgeport (CT); DC, Archdiocese of Washington (DC); Newark, Archdiocese of Newark (NJ), and; New York, Archdiocese of New York.

CAPP-USA Mission

Our mission is to evangelize lay Catholic leaders – to help form their consciences on the principles of Catholic Social Doctrine and support their initiatives to implement it in the various sectors of society.

CAPP-USA Goal

Our goal is to develop a strong, committed group of Catholic lay men and women, rich in faith and theologically prepared to be present in public life to explain, develop and implement CST in our challenging world so as we may become a deep and credible voice in the public square.

Saint John Paul the Great established Fondazione Centesimus Annus – Pro Pontifice (CAPP) on June 5, 1993, just two years after writing his seminal encyclical on the modern social condition, Centesimus Annus.
