Feast of the Immaculate Conception

The Eastern Province of the Congregation of the Mission has felt the embrace of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, since its earliest days and in like manner returns the love.  As we again celebrate this Feast of the Immaculate Conception, we recall that the first Church in the United States under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception was our very own parish in Baltimore established in 1850.

This was followed by the Immaculate Conception Parish in Philadelphia, Mary Immaculate Seminary in Northampton, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Scarborough, Ontario and Iglesia Inmaculada Conception in Concepcion, Panama.

In Mary’s name, the Vincentians in all of these works have made real to others the loving embrace of Mary Immaculate.  Each Monday at the Miraculous Medal Shrine in Germantown, the devout pray throughout the day, “O Mary Conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee”.  May we all rely on Mary’s intercession for us and model her trust in the care of our loving God.
