Please pray for Fr. Bob Swain, CM, who died this evening before 9 pm. May he fly to paradise, spend eternity in the bosom of Abraham, and help all of us in the Vincentian Family to reach the transformation of the resurrection.

The St. John’s community and the history department in particular grieve for dear Fr. Swain. He chaired the department in the early 1990s and he served his students and faculty well. Our debt to him, intellectual and spiritual, is considerable. He was an early lover and creator of computer graphics, more even than us younger people in the department. I recall how the department was festooned with congratulations produced by his beloved computer printer after my son was born in 1993. Coming home to the department was almost as joyous as coming home from the hospital. And I was not even the parent who gave birth! His spirit lives on. –Jeff
